Go-live checklist

Everything to confirm before you accept real payments.

  1. Everything works in the sandbox: success, each failure number, an expired checkout, a repeated webhook (your handler is idempotent) and a webhook your server answers slowly or with an error.
  2. Connect your paybill or till on Payout Destinations (Daraja consumer key, consumer secret and passkey).
  3. Register as a merchant on Merchant Gateway and accept the licence terms if a fee applies. Copy your live Merchant ID and secret (the secret is shown once).
  4. Replace the test Merchant ID and secret in your configuration with the live pair. The endpoint stays the same. Keep the secret in an environment variable or secrets manager, never in source control or browser code.
  5. Make one real payment with a small amount (for example KES 10) and confirm the order is marked paid and the money arrived in your paybill or till.
  6. Confirm your notify_url is public HTTPS with a valid certificate and answers 2xx quickly.
